Default EP3 tranny going in...

So as you all know i've been running the base RSX 5-speed transmission for the past couple years and its held up really well, but i've always felt that the gearing was too long for my power level and that my car could go faster with better gearing.

Enter the 02-05 Civic Si Transmission... very similar gearing but a shorter FD which will overall make the motor rpm quicker.

5-Speed Comparison:
RSX | Civic Si
1- 3.266 | 3.062
2- 1.88 | 1.769
3- 1.212 | 1.212
4- 0.921 | 0.921
5- 0.738 | 0.738
FD- 4.389 | 4.764

I wanted to do this test before the end of year in similar weather conditions so i'm praying for good weather next weekend.

Started taking the tranny out last night...

so to recap what happened...

took my base RSX trans out, opened it up and took the gears out. swapped my Quaife LSD onto the ep3 FD and put all the ep3 gears into the base RSX case (bad idea ) and put it all back together.

Took the car out for a spin on last Tuesday night and got a really hi-pitched whine when accelerating and deeper pitched whine when decelerating. drained the oil and noticed some metal shavings... back apart it comes.

Big thanks to Joe (ep3moschini) for help thursday/friday night ripping it apart and getting it back together in record time!!

My first problem was i used the shims from the RSX trans with the ep3 gears... don't ask why. We found out that they are a different thickness. Also, we just ended up putting the gears back into the original ep3 casing.

After all that, took her for a spin Friday night and NO WHINE!!! Problem solved, off to the track...
